KRISTA POHORENEC: POINTS OF LIGHT AWARDEE
Full Description:
Krista Pohorenec, a teenager challenged with Down Syndrome, was recently given by Gov. Jeb Bush the Points of Light Award.
Krista is a volunteer with United Cerebral Palsy of Central Florida-- an organization that assists other children with special needs. She reads out to students, helps them with puzzles, watches over them on the playground and prepares them for nap time.
"Krista's personal triumphs prove an indomitable spirit can overcome challenges individuals with special needs face every day," Bush said. "Through her example, Krista is sharing a vision for children with Down syndrome where limitless potential is accepted, expected and embraced."
Earlier this year, she competed in the Accenture Escape from Alcatraz Triathlon where she swam 1.5 miles in icy San Francisco Bay waters to help raise money for UCP of Central Florida.
